GUARDIAN MALAYSIA RAISES RM10,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH MALAYSIA AND LOCKS OF HOPE ASSOCIATION FROM ITS CANCER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

Kuala Lumpur, November 24, 2019 – A total of RM10,000 was raised during the ‘Respond to Reverse’ Guardian Malaysia’s cancer awareness campaign from its E-commerce site throughout September 2019 contributed by brands that participated in this campaign which were, Beyoutiful, Botaneco Garden, derma365, Happy Mask and Nature’s Heart.

In today’s world, cancer has a major impact on so many people and families in Malaysia and across the world. About 60 per cent of cancer prognosis among Malaysians were only detected at later stages, typically at Stage III and IV after the victim has been affected.1 Given the severity of cancer, Guardian Malaysia took the initiative in launching this campaign in order to raise awareness about cancer while stressing the importance of screening and early detection to ensure everyone has a safe and brighter future.

The initiatives to raise funds during Guardian's 'Respond to Reverse' campaign includes donating 1% of sales profit from the participating brands from Guardian’s E-commerce site throughout September to Cancer Research Malaysia and Locks of Hope Association. In addition, customers who purchased RM40 and above worth of products from participating brands at any Guardian outlet will receive a complimentary canvas bag as a token of appreciation. Finally, Guardian Malaysia also collaborated with Number76 hair salon to cut and collect hair from the public for wig making by Locks of Hope Association for patients who are battling cancer.

As a grand finale to this successful campaign, Guardian Malaysia hosted the Reversing Cancer Workshop, a public workshop organised in collaboration with Cancer Research Malaysia. Two specially curated and significant topics that were presented by cancer researchers included 'Can You Fight Cancer with Your Mobile Phone?' and 'Is Genetic Testing Right for Me?' by Professor Dr. Cheong Sok Ching and Dr. Joanna Lim respectively. Judging by the number of questions from the floor, members of the public who took part in this talk were clearly excited and gained a lot of knowledge about the topics.

At the end of the workshop, D.Y. Cho, Marketing Director of Guardian Health And Beauty, South East Asia presented mock cheques worth RM10,000 to Cancer Research Malaysia and Locks of Hope Association. In addition, a total of 222 hair bundles that were collected across all Number76 hair salon branches nationwide were presented by D.Y. Cho and Michelle Yeap in representation of Locks of Hope Association. To further support the campaign, Number76 hair salon also took the initiative to offer a RM20 discount on any haircut services for the hair donors during the campaign which encouraged many people to donate their cut hair.

With such an advocative gesture, Guardian Malaysia is committed to empower more and more people to a life that is healthy and beautiful in all aspects.
